Two robbers arrested

TIRUNELVELI: Police have arrested two anti-socials and seized Rs. 2.50 lakh worth valuables from them.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, City Commissioner of Police, M. N. Manjunatha said a special police team that was formed recently to curb incidents of robbery and burglary, nabbed S. Khadar Sultan (48) and K. Narayanan (29), both hailing from Aaminpuram in Melapalayam on Wednesday during the vehicle check at Ambasamudram Road Junction on South Bypass Road.

During interrogation, the police found that they were involved in four robberies and five burglaries and recovered 20 sovereign gold ornaments, two bikes and 5 mobile phones from them.

“While Khader Sultan is involved in more than 100 robbery and burglary cases and got convicted in many of them, Narayanan was acquitted in a murder case,” Mr. Manjunatha said.

Deputy Commissioners of Police T. Jayachandran (Law and Order), Kalpana Nayak (Crime and Traffic) were present. In a raid conducted in a video compact disc shop at Tirunelveli Junction, 482 pirated VCDs were seized.
