Bhoomi puja for Samathuvapuram

Promoting unity: Social Welfare Minister P. Geetha Jeevan inaugurating samathuvapuram work at Ramanooth in Tuticorin district on Wednesday.

TUTICORIN: Bhoomi puja for the construction of a new Samathuvapuram at Ramanoothu near Ettayapuram was performed on Wednesday in the presence of P. Geetha Jeevan, Minister for Social Welfare.

Construction work began with Ms. Geetha Jeevan laying the foundation stone for 100 houses that would come up on an area of nine acres under Periyar Ninaivu Samathuvapuram Scheme.

She said that the built up area of each house would be 265 square feet and the Samathuvapuram would have an overhead tank with a capacity of 30, 000 litres to provide drinking water to the residents. A fair price shop would also be started.

R. Shankar, Project officer, District Rural Development Agency; S. Narayan, Executive Engineer, DRDA; S. Lakuvan, Block Development Officer, Vilathikulam, and R. Shalini, Assistant Executive Engineer, Kovilpatti, were present.
