Savings accounts for school children

TIRUCHI: Punjab National Bank has launched a national campaign to inculcate banking and savings habits in school students.

During the campaign, students will be encouraged through camps and other activities to open savings accounts.

The bank will offer zero balance savings account for students of 10 years and above.

By opening the account, students become eligible for issuance of DD for all types of fees free of charges anywhere and a free debit card. Students, who are 18 years and above, become eligible for overdraft facility, a press release of the Circle Head, Circle Office of the Punjab National Bank, S. M. Veerappan issued here on Wednesday said.

Essay writing competition

Besides career guidance and tree plantation camps, the bank will organise national essay competition for students of classes X- XII.

The bank will give 295 prizes, including 59 each first, second and third prizes and 118 consolation prizes.

The prize money ranges from Rs. 500 to Rs. 3,000.

The students can write an essay in 600 words on one of the topics: ‘Education system and moral values’, ‘Global warming and planet earth’ and ‘India: the emerging economy’.

The essays should be forwarded by the Heads of Institution to the Circle Head, Punjab National Bank, PNB House, Kailasapuram, Tiruchi – 620 014 by November 25.
