Applications will be received at ‘Janaspandana’ programmes in rural areas District administration has begun streamlining Public Distribution System MYSORE: A three-day special drive to issue BPL cards will begin in the jurisdiction of nine zonal offices in the city from Thursday. Applications can be submitted at the zonal offices. For those living in rural areas, a provision has been made for receiving applications for BPL cards at “Janaspandana” programmes organised at hobli-levels. However, applications should be submitted in the prescribed format. The drive will end on Saturday. The district authorities have given digital cameras to revenue and food inspectors to take photographs of the applicants’ houses to ensure that only genuine BPL families receive the benefits extended by the State Government. Acting on the direction of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, the district administration has begun streamlining the public distribution system (PDS). The decision on special drive was taken during the meetings of the district advisory committee constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan. The district administration has asked the officials concerned to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the people with regard to distribution of foodgrains. Surprise checksThe Deputy Commissioner has asked tahsildars to conduct surprise checks of PDS shops and use the services of revenue inspectors and the wireless network for such inspections. LPG dealers have been asked to furnish details of cylinders, both domestic and commercial, lifted from the outlets of oil companies daily for distribution among consumers and the cylinders distributed daily to consumers. The dealers have also been directed to provide particulars of vehicles and routes used for delivery of cylinders. A control room has been set up to attend to the problems in PDS. Complaints can be lodged by dialling 1077. The complainant will get a complaint number. Only emergency cases which have to be accepted within 24 hours will be entertained in the control rooms. For other issues, they should give written complaints to the zonal offices in the city and tahsildars’ offices in the taluks. In a significant step, roster system will be introduced from December 1 for distribution of kerosene in the district. Fair price shops and kerosene dealers will inform BPL cardholders in advance on when and what time they can collect their quota of kerosene from them. The name of the cardholder, card number, distribution date, quantity and time will be announced in the fair price shop and the outlet of kerosene dealer daily to avoid rush. “If cardholders cannot collect their quota of kerosene on the specified day, they can get it on some other day in the coming week. The next date and time of distributing kerosene will be informed to cardholders accordingly,” according to the district administration. DecisionNotably, a decision has been taken to limit daily distribution of kerosene per day per dealer to 50 cardholders. “This will reduce long queues in front of the shops,” Mr. Manivannan said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
