City police teams in AP in search of liquor mafia

BERHAMPUR: Police teams from Berhampur district are in Andhra Pradesh to track down Ch. Bairi Patro an alleged liquor mafia who is said to be the main accused in a double murder.

Rivalry over liquor trading led to this double murder near Sanakusumi village under Golanthara police station on the outskirts of the city on November 9. According to sources police teams have reached Andhra Pradesh tracking down the mobile phones used by Patro. It is said that during past one week Patro had changed eight sim cards. Police is trying to nab all the culprits behind this double murder as it has started to increase tension in the area.

Members of the Ganjam district ‘Soundhik’ Samaj, the traditional caste-based organisation of families involved in liquor trading has decided to hold yagna on the NH-5 near Kanisi on the outskirts of the city demanding arrest of main culprit behind the murders near Sanakusumi village. When contacted the Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP), S. Dev Dutta Singh said he has been able to persuade the agitators to block the highway for one hour only.
