Students take out candlelight march

MYSORE: Over 200 students of a management college in the city took out a candlelight march and took a pledge to lead a life of integrity on Wednesday to mark the third death anniversary of Manjunath Shanmugam, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) sales officer, who was killed on November 19, 2005.

SDM-IMD College in Mysore was among the 15 colleges across India, which observed his death anniversary.

Manjunath Shanmugam was killed for trying to the adulteration of oil.

“The students of SDM-IMD college in Mysore were among 1,000 students across India, including the Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs), who took the pledge”, trustee of Manjunath Shanmugam Trust (MST) Jaishankar said.

MST has also instituted the national Manjunath Shanmugam Integrity Award that seeks to honour and encourage those working to uphold values of truth and honesty in Indian public life. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation.

The MST has invited nominations for the third integrity award to be presented in March 2009.

“MST is looking at candidates, who have worked to rectify corrupt practices in Government, public and corporate life,” the MST statement said.
