TDP to exert pressure on Maharashtra

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party will launch a drive to build pressure on the need to make Maharashtra give up works upstream of the Godavari, as they will ultimately result in the virtual drying up of the Sriramsagar project ayacut spanning 18 lakh acres across the six Telangana districts.

At a press conference E. Dayakar Rao, MP, who led a party delegation on a three-day fact finding mission to Maharashtra on the 12 projects upstream of the Godavari, said they had collected in-depth information. Once the leaders compiled the report, they would submit to the floor leaders of all parties on November 22.

After meeting the floor leaders, the TDP would press for a debate on the issue in the Assembly.

During Parliament’s winter session, party MPs would try to build a consensus with like-minded parties and highlight the ‘injustice’ to Telangana, Mr. Rao said.

Kadiam Srihari, party general secretary, said that over a stretch of 422 km from Jaikwad project near Aurangabad, 13 small and medium projects were being constructed across the Godavari. Interestingly, only the Vishnupuri project was ‘official’ and even, apart from the 11 projects including Babli that were ‘known’, one more was coming up.
