KOCHI: The Kerala State Electricity Board has disconnected power supply to the State Water Transport Department’s main boat jetty in Ernakulam, after the department failed to pay long-pending dues. This has resulted in over 10,000 regular passengers, tourists and SWTD personnel at the ticket counter encountering severe inconvenience after dusk. Sources said that an SWTD official in Ernakulam who ought to have sought financial allotment from the head office to pay the Rs 30,000 dues to the board failed to do so, following which the KSEB extended the deadline for the department to pay up its dues. The supply was disconnected as there was further delay in clearing the payment. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
