A feast for eyes: Students performing cultural programmes at the Kalai Ilakkiya Vizha in Salem on Thursday. — SALEM: “The inherent talent should be properly utilised so that the peak in life could be achieved,” said Collector J. Chandrakumar. Distributing prizes and certificates to the winners of various schools in the Salem District revenue District Arts and Cultural festival, which concluded here on Thursday, Mr. Chandrakumar said that the government had been taking special efforts to prepare each one of the students to have individual creativity for which the district arts and cultural centres were playing crucial roles. TeamHe congratulated the Salem district team, which had been winning the pride of place in the State-level arts and cultural competitions for the past seven years. He wanted them to achieve the same this year too. He asked the students to plan their education in advance so that they could choose the branches of their choice. There was nothing wrong to make an attempt. A straight forward approach would culminate in success. Perfection The Collector also asked those students who lost in various competitions to strive hard to achieve perfection. Everyone was equipped with certain qualities and talent, which would blossom at appropriate time for which one had to work hard without any slackening, he further added. Under the Government and Government-aided schools in the district, St. Mary’s HSS, Mettur, won the first prize followed by St. Mary’s HSS, A.N. Mangalam, which finished second. Sri Ramakrishna HSS and Saradha HSS, Salem shared third spot. In the Matriculation schools, Cluney MHSS, Salem and Malco MHSS, Mettur shared the first prize while Holy Angels MHSS, Salem came second. Golden gates MHSS, Salem finished third. Those participated in the function included CEO P. Ramaraj, CEO, SSA, S. R. Sivagnanam, DEO P. Kaliappan, Sankagiri DEO R. Palanisamy, DEEO Mangalam, Sri Saradha Vidyalaya Girls HSS teachers S. Vishalakshi and T. Manimozhi and Headmaster, Attayampatti Girls HSS K. Poornavel. Nearly 20,000 students from 410 schools took part in various competitions.
