Kanpur: The combination of Subhash Gupta and Raju Tolani chalked out a memorable victory to win the Holkar Trophy pairs event in the 50th National bridge championship that concluded here on Friday. They picked up a burst of speed in the last few rounds of the event to eventually come out with a tally of 415 Match Points (MPs). Asim Mukherjee and Hasibul Hasan of the Railways were second with 408 MPs and and early leaders Vinod Sharma-N.K. Gupta finished third with 392.31 MPs. Kiran Nadar and Satyanarayan finished fourth with a tally of 392 MPs. In the Mohan Sicka Trophy for the Board-a-Match event, erstwhile leader Formidables had a poor third session, scoring only 57 MPs for a total of 217 and finished runner-up. Indian Railways regained some of its lost form and scored 69 in the last session to finish with 224 and win the trophy. Alok Daga finished third with a tally of 216 MPs. Although both Maya Meera Sneha and Trambak scored a massive 85 MPs in the third session, they could no better than finish fourth and fifth respectively. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
