Nearly 18,000 turn up at Osmania Medical College in two days HYDERABAD: Witnessing cadavers neatly cut open at the operating table is an unnerving experience. And if you are a school student, the experience could be intimidating. But not for the 18,000 odd schoolchildren who turned up at the medical exhibition (MEDEX) at Osmania Medical College (OMC) in just two days. “Such exhibitions are rare and I can’t afford to miss it. Four years back there was a similar exhibition at Gandhi hospital and I missed it. Witnessing real cadavers than models is a rare opportunity. I was tense when I walked into the anatomy room but practical learning is easier,” says Kulsum Awasthi, class 8 student of Indus school. The long queues inside the OMC campus signified the popularity of medicine among children. “This is my second visit in as many days. I have to see the forensic section again. There is a section in forensics on poisoning and its effects on organs. They have displayed real poisoned organs and that’s amazing,” says Anmol from Slate school. Skeleton danceThere was no dearth of children who just turned up to check out the skeleton dance and scary house. Some others were busy taking notes at demonstrating tables to complete their class projects. “My friends asked me not to miss the scary house. I want to feel the excitement in the dark room,” gushed Somkanth Chatterjee, a Narayana Concept School student. The 10-day MEDEX is certainly a sure-fire hit with the youngsters. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
