SAD MEMORIES: A look at Sushma’s wedding album leaves her grandmother Eswaramma, emotion-choked. HYDERABAD: With just two days left for his voyage to the US, Vamshi was excited. He was overjoyed too, not because he would be stepping on the land of opportunities but meeting his beloved elder sister, Sushma, living at Northridge city near Los Angeles with her husband Suresh. However, a cruel twist of fate shattered his dreams when his close relative Harika, who too lives there, rang up on Friday morning stating that Sushma was found dead in the store-room of her house. The news came as a rude jolt not only to Vamshi but to his father V. Kanakarajam, retired A.P. Transco engineer, and mother Bhagya. Vague informationSushma, an engineering graduate, was motivator, guide and philosopher to Vamshi. What hurt him and his parents more was the vague information about Sushma’s death. Except Harika’s confirmation that Sushma was no more, they were totally in the dark as to what had happened. “When I rang up and introduced myself also, Suresh did not saying anything and the phone got cut,” Kanakarajam told newsmen. He was not informed either by Suresh or the latter’s parents, who too live at Nacharam in the city, as to what led to Sushma’s death. Was she attacked by someone? Did she kill herself? Was it an accidental death? “When so many questions disturbed our minds, at least Suresh or someone on his behalf could have explained to us what had happened,” Sushma’s uncle Laxmirajam said. Sushma was so attached to him that he accompanied her to Bangalore when she went there for training programme of her first job after completing her engineering. Motivated by Sushma, his daughter too pursued engineering and settled as a software engineer. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
