AITA and Apollo Tyres reconcile

BANGALORE: In a refreshing departure from its earlier stand, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Friday declared that it was putting “the past behind” and sought cooperation and coordination from Apollo Tyres in promoting the game in the country.

Karti P. Chidambaram, vice-president of the AITA, said the National Association was not against any private enterprise promoting the game in the country. Mr. Chidambaram thus put a lid over the controversy over Apollo Tyres’ Rs. 100 crore 10-year programme aimed at spotting and grooming young talent around the country on a yearly basis, and geared at producing a Grand Slam singles champion by 2018. — Special Correspondent
