High Court judge urges lawyers not to boycott courts

NEYVELI: Madras High Court Judge K. Venkataraman has called upon lawyers not to boycott courts under any circumstances.

He was speaking after inaugurating the sub-court set up on the Neyveli Lignite Corporation premises here on Saturday. He said the lawyers should cooperate with the judicial officers for quick disposal of cases. As the Portfolio Judge of Cuddalore district, Justice Mr. Venkataraman called upon the members of the Neyveli Bar Association not to abstain from court for any reason.

Justice A. Kulasekaran of Madras High Court said the judges and lawyers should act responsibly and conduct themselves in such a manner as not to attract criticism.

He thanked NLC Chairman and Managing Director J.N. Prasanna Kumar and other officials for their help in setting up the sub-court.

Already 9,000 cases relating to land acquisition for the NLC were settled through conciliation; only 1,700 cases were pending. He announced that Gunavathi was appointed the judge of the sub-court.

Minister of State for Law K. Venkatapathi said Rs.11 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of an integrated court complex at Cuddalore.
