CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the Centre reduce prices of petroleum products immediately, citing the fall in international prices of crude oil. Though the government insists that inflation is dropping, prices of essential commodities, including vegetables, were still high. The price of crude oil had dipped to $50 and, despite several appeals to reduce prices of petroleum products, the Centre was refusing to do so. In a statement, N.Varadarajan, State secretary of the CPI (M), condemned the Centre for its refusal to lower the prices. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
