Manjunath, Ashwini to lead

BANGALORE: Manjunath and Ashwini will lead the Karnataka boys and girls teams in the 31st National sub-junior volleyball championship (under-16) to be held at Jammu from November 27 to December 3.

The teams: Boys: Praneeth, V. Karthik, Vishwanath, Chandan, Shafiula, Govind Swamy, Hipina, Preetham, Chethan Tigade, Kadiravan, Manjunath, Rajath. Coach: L.R. Yateesh. Assistant coach: Vijaya Kumar.

Girls: Sathvika, Harshitha, Meghana, S. Sowmya, Sangeetha, Arathi Somaiah, Varishta, R. Ramya, Rachitha Reddy, Ashwini, Anusha, Abilasha. Coach: John Wilson. Manager: Mary Roy Choudhary.

Aided by a Sachin hat-trick Synergy SC scored a big come from behind victory over Bombers HC in the State ‘B’ division hockey league at the KSHA Stadium, here on Saturday.

Sameer put Bombers ahead with a sixth-minute goal. But from then on, it was Synergy all the way as first Vijay equalised and then Ashwin netted a brace before Sachin went onto add three more towards the dying minutes.

Earlier, Coorg HA, playing for the third straight day, notched up a 3-1 win over Vasu SC with Deepak (two) and Bopanna being the scores. Sunil Jadhav netted a late consolation goal for Vasu SC.

A.R. Das Munshi (BPCL) and A.N. Gopal (ONGC), with a nett of 53 points, claimed the title in StableFord competition of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board’s inter-unit golf championship at the Eagleton Golf Resort here.

The team of M.S. Bisht (ONGC) and K.S.M. Jeelani (BPCL), with 50 points, took the runner-up spot.

In the open team event, OIL and ONGC finished tied for the lead with a nine-under par score, followed by IOCL with seven-under par.

The Deccan Athletic Club will conduct its weekend meets for boys (u-13 and 16) and girls (u-12 and 15) at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on December 7, 14, 21 and 28 respectively. The Indian National Rally Championship’s fifth round, the IMG Rally de Coorg, will be held at Madikere on November 29 and 30.
