Kala-Nadam festival begins today

BANGALORE: Nadam (Narthan Academy of Dance and Music) is all set to celebrate its ninth Kala-Nadam Festival of Dance and Music on Sunday and Monday.

Dance programmes will see the participation of renowned artistes, including the physically challenged, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall in Vyalikaval.

Nadam is bringing in artistes from New Delhi, called “Ability Unlimited”, India’s first professional dance group comprising physically challenged artistes. This group is led by well-known dancer and choreographer Syed Salauddin Pasha. The event starts with a Kathak rendition by Smitha Srinivasan of Nadam Bengaluru at 6 p.m. on Sunday. It will be followed by Kathak by Nandini K. Mehta and K. Murali Mohan of Nadam. The one-hour Bharatanatya by Rama Vaidyanathan of New Delhi will commence at 7.30 p.m. Dancer and director of Datar Institute of Fine Arts Usha Datar and B. Bhanumati, director of Nrityakalamandiram, will be present.

Kirti Ramagopal of Bangalore will perform Bharatanatya on Monday at 6.30 p.m., followed by Kathak by Arpita Banerjee. The physically-challenged artistes from Ability Unlimited, New Delhi, will present a variety dance programme at 7.45 p.m.
