Expedite gauge conversion work, says MP

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP, A. Ravichandran, has urged the Minister of State for Railways, R. Velu, to expedite the gauge conversion work in Virudhunagar-Manamadurai section.

The work that was announced in 2004 had been allocated Rs.60 crore after he repeatedly represented it to the Railway Ministry and Central Planning Commission and rake up the issue at Parliament, Mr. Ravichandran said in a statement.

Despite the budgetary allocation and stipulation of 18 months for the work to be completed, it was not being carried out at the required pace. The MP urged the Minister to inspect the gauge conversion work and expedite it.
