CHENNAI: The one-man panel headed by Justice M.S. Janadhanam which studied the modalities of providing reservation for Arundathiyars within the existing quota for Scheduled Castes, submitted its report to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the Secretariat on Saturday. The panel was appointed in March after an all-party meeting convened by the government unanimously adopted a resolution supporting its constitution. Many social organisations and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had made a demand for providing separate reservation for members of the Arundathiyar and Adi Andhra communities, including for those who had converted to Christianity. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
