PT leader for ban on political activities in educational institutions

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Puthiya Thamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy on Friday demanded a total ban on political activities in educational institutions in the State, saying they were the root cause for clashes among students.

Talking to reporters here, Dr. Krishnasamy said the clash at the Dr. Ambedkar Law College in Chennai was not an isolated incident. “The casteism prevailing in rural areas is trying to dominate college campuses. It is unfortunate that not a single case under PCR act has been filed in connection with the clash... Allowing functions to commemorate caste leaders and allowing party flags on the campus are some of the reasons that have driven a wedge among students.”

Dr. Krishnasamy said his party would organise a seminar in Chennai in the first week of December to initiate a debate on the need to ban political activities on the campus.
