Chennai: The third floodlit court, sponsored by the Panimalar Engineering College at the Dr. Sivanthi Thidal in the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, was inaugurated on Saturday. Sanjay Arora, IGP, and Shakthi Kumar, Director, Panimalar Engineering College, switched on the lights amidst cheers from the officials and players representing the volleyball fraternity. Walter Dawaram, President, Tamil Nadu Athletics Association and Nellai Friends presided over the function. Martin Sudhakar, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Volleyball Association, and R. Srinivasan, Vice-President, Nellai Friends, were present. Chitrapandian, Secretary, Chennai District VA, said the third floodlit court at the Stadium would be beneficial to organise big tournaments since three matches could be staged simultaneously at one venue. He added that one court might be used separately for conducting women’s matches. The new court will be used for the State championships starting on Monday. Matches postponedAll the TNCA league matches scheduled to be played on November 23 stand postponed due to inclement weather and poor ground conditions. Inter-school cricketSrivaari Elevators will conduct the Children Trophy under-14 inter-school cricket tournament from December 1. Entries close on Nov. 28. Call B.
