CHENNAI: The Indian Institute of Nutrition Sciences and Heinz Nutrition Foundation of India have launched a nutrition support service centre in the city which will provide professional advice on nutrition to the public. The services are part of a professional-private partnership initiative supported by the Nutrition Society of India. Speaking at the concluding session of a three-day conference NUTRIFE(A)ST 2008 here on Saturday, B.Sesikaran, Director of the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, said that researchers in the field of nutrition did not have the link to the general public to take the message of importance of nutrition. It was for this purpose that nutrition experts had to align with industries having a direct access to the masses through the market. “Professional-private partnerships are meant to take the professional expertise of industry in spreading message of nutrition to the public,” he said. At the conference, Post Master General, Tamil Nadu Postal Circle, T.Murthy released a special cover comprising postage stamps dedicated to C.Gopalan, nutritionist and winner of Padma Bhushan in 2003. A newsletter of Indian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ISPEN) was also released by S.Kadirvel, Regional Director, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
