BANGALORE: For students assembled at the Institute of Agricultural Technologists, the workshop on noise pollution held on Saturday was an opportunity to learn about the hazards of noise pollution and the reasons that lead up to it. Ornithologist M.B. Krishna spoke to students about the wonders of sound. In an attempt to foster curiosity about the “soundscape”, he asked them to record ambient sounds of a place and see what they could learn about its character. “Trees, which are good sound barriers, are being felled indiscriminately,” he said. “Birds, insects and natural sounds have disappeared.” © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
