Mohanty knocks out Punjab

Chennai: Orissa paceman Basanth Mohanty claimed seven for 27 as Punjab was shot out for 60 on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Super League match in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The host then progressed to 148 for five at stumps with N. Behera making 74. For Punjab, medium pacer Gagandeep Singh picked up four wickets.

Saurashtra was on a strong 285 for one against Mumbai at Rajkot. Chirag Pathak (145 batting) and Bhushan Chauhan (104) added 275 runs for the first wicket.

In Bangalore, off-spinner Sunil Raju scalped four as Baroda was dismissed for 169. Karnataka was 63 for three at stumps, Rahul Dravid batting on 27.

Hyderabad moved to a comfortable 273 for three against Rajasthan at Uppal. V.V.S. Laxman was at the crease on a fluent, unbeaten 96. He has faced 154 balls and struck ten boundaries so far.

At Valsad, Bhavik Thaker’s 121 was the highlight in host Gujarat’s score of 310 for seven against holder Delhi.
