Raj Thackeray calls on Shiv Sena supremo

Meena Menon

MUMBAI: After a gap of over two-and-a-half years, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Sunday called on his uncle and Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and had an informal meeting with him for over an hour at Matoshri. Political circles are abuzz with rumours of a rapprochement between the two parties, something Mr. Raj Thackeray has strongly denied.

Mr. Raj Thackeray quit the Shiv Sena in December 2005 and floated the MNS on March 9, 2006.

Uddhav present

The meeting at Mr. Bal Thackeray’s Bandra residence was also attended by Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray.

Speaking to the press later, Mr. Raj Thackeray said it was a meeting between “an uncle and a nephew” and there was no political discussion.

He explained that the senior Thackeray had telephoned him on Sunday and asked for some of his books which were with him for some years. Some of the books were on his favourite cartoonists. Mr. Raj Thackeray said that he found the books and instead of sending them across, he decided to go himself.
