Encounter: judicial inquiry sought

BANGALORE: Several social organisations in the State have called upon the Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to order a judicial probe into the recent encounter in Chikmagalur district in which three naxalites and a police constable died.

The organisations have threatened to stage demonstrations in the State if the demand was not met.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, the former Minister B.T. Lalitha Naik said the death of police constable Guruprasad raised suspicion in the minds of people. “A section of the press has reported that Guruprasad might have died due to police firing. Information collected from the local people has also revealed the same,” she added.

Praja Vimochana Chaluvali president Patapat Nagaraj said the Government should try to resolve the issues that had forced people to take up arms.

Jathivinasha Vedike president Lakshman said that scene of encounter depicted that arms were placed near the bodies of the naxals killed in the encounter.
