MYSORE: The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has decided to prepare an action plan for creating satellite towns around the city.

Decision in this regard was taken at a meeting on Saturday. Several members emphasised the need to put the long-pending proposal on creating satellite towns on the fast track by beginning correspondence in this regard with the Urban Development Department.

Prospective locations

The members discussed prospective locations for the satellite townships.

Daaripura in Jayapura hobli, Badagalpura in Yelwal hobli and Vajamangala in Varuna hobli were among the locations identified by the MUDA members for creating the townships. Though the MUDA came up with the proposal on creating three or four satellite towns around Mysore over three years ago, to reduce pressure on the existing civic infrastructure in the city, it made little headway.

Several members of the MUDA felt that creation of satellite townships should begin without delay, lest the existing infrastructure buckles under the growing population and expanding area of the city.

The members urged MUDA Commissioner P.C. Jayanna to forward a proposal to the Urban Development Department immediately for establishing three satellite townships around Mysore. After the Government’s approval was secured, locations should be finalised and the process of land acquisition and distribution of compensation could be taken up, they said.

With the number of MUDA site aspirants standing at about 1.5 lakh, the members also made out a case for creating new extensions and allotting sites to the applicants at the earliest.

The meeting also approved in principle construction of a roof for the gallery on Bannimantap Parade Grounds, where torch-light parade is held during Dasara festival. A few members sought to bring to the meeting’s notice inconvenience caused to spectators during torch-light parade, air show and other programmes during Dasara celebrations.

The members suggested that a draft for construction of the roof be prepared and placed before the next meeting so that a final decision could be taken in this regard.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner P. Manivannan, who is also the Chairman of the MUDA.

MUDA Commissioner P.C. Jayanna, MUDA Superintending Engineer Mahesh and MLAs Shankarlinge Gowda, Tanvir Sait and M. Satyanarayana, and MLCs Siddaraju, K.T. Srikante Gowda, Marithibbe Gowda, B. Chidananda, N. Manjunath and Thontadarya were present.
