BANGALORE: Twice in arrears, Integral Coach Factory, Chennai (ICF) rallied to defeat Sesa Goa 3-2 in a group B qualifying match of the Federation Cup football tournament at the football stadium here on Sunday. ICF will meet Viva Kerala next. Sesa looked better organised. But scoring goals was not its forte as both the strikers — Marcus Mascarenhas and Agnelo Monteiro — missed chances, despite the former netting both the goals. ICF on the other hand failed to initiate a purposeful move for most part of the match, at least in the first session. The Goans went into the lead in the 10th minute with Marcus jabbing home an Israil Gurung square from the right, but a minute before the breather conceded the advantage as Nicolay Colaco chested down a harmless-looking cross from ICF’s Suresh Kumar into his own goal. On change of ends, Sesa took the lead in the 60th minute through Marcus (2-1). After an Ashok Kumar shot was blocked by defender Augustine Fernandes, ICF scored the equaliser through Avxiano. But with barely two minutes left Suresh Kumar sealed Sesa’s fate with a gem. Following a Dhadeus relay, Suresh Kumar chipped the ball over and into the far corner of the net. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
