Shanmathy bags a double

Chennai: Shanmathy of MVM fought back after losing the first two games to come up with a feisty performance in prevailing over J.P. Roshini (St. John’s) 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 12-10, in the senior girls’ final of the Mylapore Club-Sportstar city school students’ knockout table tennis tournament for non-rankers, at the club premises on Sunday.

Shanmathy held her nerve in a closely-fought final game to claim the title. She also clinched the junior title.

PSBB’s A. Kamal Teja had it easier in the senior boys’ final, defeating Abiram (St. John’s) 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, adding to his junior title.

P.B. Santhanakrishnan, Secretary, Mylapore Club, gave away the prizes.
