NEW DELHI: In yet another unpleasant reminder of the reality that girl child is still considered a “burden” by many, a newborn girl was found dumped at Gole Market here over the weekend. The girl has been sent to “Palna” care home. On Saturday morning, a woman pavement dweller spotted a stray dog dragging a black cloth bag near Gole Market. She then heard the cry of a baby coming from inside the bag. She scared the dog away and checked the bag and found a baby girl. Subsequently the police were informed. They rushed the infant to Lady Hardinge Medical College where doctors checked her and found her healthy. The Mandir Marg police have registered a case under Section 317 of the IPC and are trying to identify the baby’s parents. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
