Good show: A NCC cadet displaying his equestrian skills at the concluding ceremony of 60th NCC Day celebrations in Hyderabad on Sunday. HYDERABAD: As microlites whooshed past the Parade Grounds, spectators erupted into a roaring applause. The horses galloped past them, only to draw another round of cheers from the expectant crowd. The 60th National Cadet Corps (NCC) Day celebrations at Parade Grounds enthralled a large crowd, comprising people of all ages here on Sunday. Perfect timingApart from the flypast of microlite aircrafts and horse riding, human pyramids were formed with precision and timing by the cadets. The celebrations commenced with an impressive parade by the nine marching contingents of army, air, navy wings representing the State. Acrobatic manoeuvresAero modelling show too attracted a lot of attention. Acrobatic manoeuvres of the miniature aircraft models left the gathering, especially the children asking for more. Apart from staging adventure sports, students of A.P. Social Welfare School, Shaikpet performed ‘Bharateeyam’, a cultural dance programme. The response from the crowd when the students held aloft the tricolour during the show was electrifying. Minister for Higher Education R. Chenga Reddy, who was the chief guest, reviewed the parade and took the salute. He pointed out that NCC plays a vital role in eradicating anti-social elements in the society. NCC provides all-round training to cadets and is considered as one of the best training organisations for youth in the world, he said. Pat for contingentHe congratulated the State contingent for bagging the Prime Minister’s banner at the Republic Day celebrations earlier this year and conveyed his best wishes in the forthcoming competitions. Secunderabad Group Commandant, Colonel Rajender Singh said the AP Directorate would continue to keep up with the traditions and customs of NCC and celebrate such events, which would leave an ever lasting memory in people, specially the youth. Championship TrophyThe Higher Education Minister later presented the Overall Championship Trophy (Chief Minister’s Banner) to Hyderabad Group which defeated eight other groups from the State.H.S.
