Federation demands filling of backlog vacancies Implementation of panel’s suggestions sought HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Federation of Backward Classes (OBCs) Employees’ Welfare Associations has demanded that the United Progressive Alliance Government constitute a Parliamentary committee of OBCs and provide judicial powers to the National Commission for Backward Classes. The Federation demanded that the Government fill the backlog vacancies with OBCs as a distinct group ensuring non-applicability of 50 per cent ceiling and implement the recommendations of Sudarshan Natchiappan Committee recommendations in toto. The Federation organised a meeting here on Sunday in protest against the indifference of the government in conceding the demands of the OBCs. Federation president K. Jayaprasad said the constitution of a Parliamentary panel would ensure effective implementation of poverty alleviation measures, scientific allocation of budget and prevention of misuse of funds allotted for OBC welfare. Unlike the national commissions for SC/ST and women, the panel for BCs was not given judicial powers as it would help in consolidating the members of the communities. He said the federation would hold discussions with similar organisations across the country in December second week to chalk out its future course of action. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
