TIRUCHI: The need for a permanent NCC camp site in Tiruchi is set to become a reality on the premises of Bharathidasan University main campus.

Responding to a request put forth by Colonel Benz K Jacob, Group Commander, NCC Group, Tiruchi, on Monday, Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko promised five acres of land for establishment of the camp site, at the earliest. The Vice-Chancellor assured to follow up in right earnest and implement the proposal made a few years ago by the NCC Group, Tiruchi, to the university. Conferring the Honorary Rank of Colonel on the Vice-Chancellor, Col. Benz emphasised that the NCC Group, Tiruchi, should get out of its dependency on colleges for conducting more than 20 camps every year.

Led by Parade Commander Lt. N.S. Sivakumar, Associate NCC Officer, 50 cadets of Bishop Heber College presented a guard of honour to the Vice-Chancellor before he was granted the Honorary Colonelship. Col. Benz presented to the Vice-Chancellor a letter from the Director General NCC conferring the Honorary Colonel Rank, and the NCC Baton.
