Leaky roofs worry Sri Lankan refugees

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: The midday temperatures fell appreciably in the city following intermittent showers on Sunday night and on Monday.

Rain, accompanied by gentle breeze, provided relief to people from the scorching heat they had experienced over the last one week. The sky was overcast through the day. Meanwhile, some of the Sri Lankan refugees lodged at the camps at Avinashi and Perumanallur had complained of their miseries every time skies opened up owing to leaking roofs. Their grievances were addressed to Minister for Highways M.P.Saminathan during his visits to various refugee camps in the district on Saturday and Sunday.

The Disaster Management and Mitigation department sources said that Tirupur, Avinashi and Udumalpet received 9.40 mm, 9 mm and 13 mm during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday.
