Admission rules framed by varsity are final: Court

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday held that admission rules framed by a university would prevail over any other similar rules made by the Government.

Justice Ajit Gunjal passed the order on a petition by a student from Patna, Bihar. The student was studying MCA in a Bangalore-based college and the Government had refused to approve his admission, saying that though he fulfilled the criteria set out by Bangalore University, he did not meet the requirements specified by the Government. The student had filed a writ petition in the High Court, questioning the Government action. Justice Gunjal allowed the petition and said rules of admission framed by a university would prevail over that of the Government too. An earlier single judge judgment had stated that rules framed by the university would prevail.
