Jathas to be held to publicise government schemes Karwar: The Uttara Kannada District Development Committee has prepared a 15-year road map for development of Uttara Kannada district and has submitted it to the Government, Ravi Hegde Hoovinamane, president of the committee, has said. He told presspersons here on Tuesday that the Government had agreed to accept the committee’s recommendations pertaining to development works. Units of the committee would be formed in every Assembly constituency in the district to oversee implementation of development works. The committee would suggest the works to be taken up in the district to the Government, he said. To publicise government schemes, the committee would organise “jathas” and “paadayatras” in the district, Mr. Hoovinamane said. If people find it difficult to come to urban areas to get benefits of the schemes, members of the committee at taluk level would help them, he said. Raju Dhuli had been appointed general secretary of the committee, he said. He refused to comment on the controversy over the demand to shift the district headquarters from Karwar. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
