KDA programme to honour students

BANGALORE: The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) will honour toppers who have studied in the Kannada medium with “Kannada Madhyama Prashasthi”.

The two students who topped the State list in Kannada language in the pre-university and SSLC examinations will get Rs. 15,000 each.

KDA president ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru told presspersons that the Authority had identified the students who studied in the Kannada medium and secured the first three places in each district. They will be honoured at four divisional-level functions. The KDA had identified 210 such students in Bangalore (70), Mysore (58), Belgaum (47) and Gulbarga (33) divisions. The students who had come first, second and third would get Rs. 10,000, Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 6,000 respectively. The students would also get a certificate, a memento, a Kannada-English-Kannada dictionary, a Kannada-Kannada dictionary, a wrist-watch with Kannada numerals, a school bag and a premium pen set. The awards function for Bangalore division would be held in Tumkur on November 29 and dates for the other three divisions would be announced later, he said.

Mr. Chandru said this was being done for the first time. In future, efforts would be made to include students from the taluk level. Mr. Chandru said parents of the students concerned would be invited to participate in the function and the KDA would meet their travel expenses.

Releasing to the press a letter the KDA has sent to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Chandru said, “I am not fully satisfied with the implementation of Kannada as the administrative language in the State and have asked the Chief Secretary to direct the Deputy Commissioners to strictly implement the policy.”
