Four held for kidnap, extortion

CHICKBALLAPUR: The Chickballapur district police on Tuesday arrested four persons for allegedly threatening landlords and businessmen and extorting money claiming to be naxalites.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chickballapur subdivision) A. Nanaiah said that they were arrested in Madanapalli in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. He gave their names as Narasimahulu, Ravi and Raghu, all from Madanapalli, and Sri Rama Reddy of Chakavelu village in Bagepalli taluk of Chickballapur district.

A few days ago the accused and their accomplices allegedly kidnapped Reddappa, a businessman from Chakavelu village, and demanded a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh. He was released on the payment of Rs. 2 lakh.

On a complaint by Mr. Reddappa, a case of kidnap and extortion was registered in the Chelur police station — Special Correspondent
