A day of nostalgia School Notes

Recognising talent: Thomas Mar Timotheos, founder of St. Mary’s Public School, giving away prizes to students in Bangalore.

BANGALORE: The silver jubilee celebrations of St. Mary’s Public School, Queen’s Road, were held at Good Shepherd Auditorium on Saturday. It was a day of nostalgia for former students, teachers and principals. Their contribution to the growth of the school was recognised, and they were felicitated by His Grace Thomas Mar Timotheos, founder of the school.

Principal Rekha Arunkumar presented the school report. She said the school, founded in 1983 by the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Society, initially had just four students. Now, it boasts a student strength of 870 and 50 staff members.

The school caters mainly to the educational needs of underprivileged children and has sent out 18 batches of students. The 38 students who appeared for the Class 10 ICSE examination in the last academic year, had all passed with first classes, she said. “Growth, enlightenment, freedom is the motto of the school, and high standards of education, values and strict discipline are insisted upon,” she added.

Dr. Thomas Mar Timotheos said it was a huge challenge then to run the school in the area. He expressed happiness that the school was making a mark in all fields. He gave away prizes to meritorious students.

Students presented a dance drama, St. Mary’s Down the Ages. School correspondent Joy Panakkal welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests, while headmistress Neena Abraham proposed a vote of thanks.
