NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal on Tuesday suspended five party workers, including four councillors, for anti-party activities in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections. Mr. Agarwal said all of them had violated party discipline. The four suspended councillors are Azad Bidhuri from Sangam Vihar (West), Khem Chand Goel from Badarpur, Rajani Nagar from Molarbandh and Ms. Preet from Vivek Vihar. The first person against whom disciplinary action has been taken is Tilak Nagar District Committee president Lakhbir Singh Chadha. In another development, an independent candidate from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, Sushil Agarwal, withdrew from the election fray during the day and extended his support to former DPCC president and Congress candidate Subhash Chopra. Mr Agarwal has also joined the Congress. Besides him, Puneet Sood and Shyam Bhardwaj, who had fought the 2003 Municipal Corporation elections from Kalkaji as independent candidates, also joined the Congress. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
