Wahab opposes move to raise FDI in insurance

NILAMBUR: P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, said here on Wednesday that the Union government’s move to increase foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector would adversely affect the public sector insurance companies in the country.

Inaugurating a zonal meeting of the Life Insurance Agents Federation of India (LIAFI), Mr. Wahab said he would raise the matter in Parliament.

K.V. Thomas, Kozhikode division president of the LIAFI, welcomed the gathering. K. Leela Krishnan, secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.

The meeting elected the following as office-bearers: K.V. Thomas (president); K. Leelakrishnan (secretary); C. Ramachandran, O.M. George and K. Mohandas (vice- presidents); K. Vijayaraghavan, K. Azeez and Benny Mathew (joint secretaries); and V. Vinod (treasurer).
