Colleges will reopen on December 11: notification

MANGALORE: The Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) has expressed displeasure over the announcement by the Private College Managements’ Association (PCMA) that colleges will reopen on December 1. Mangalore University had notified that colleges would reopen on December 11.

AMUCT termed the decision of the PCMA unilateral.

Joselyn T. Lobo, president, and Purushothama K.V., general secretary, AMUCT, said in a release that the university had taken the decision to reopen the colleges on December 11 in view of the central valuation work and the associated examination work going on at various centres in Mangalore, which may take some time. The academic calendar of the university could be decided only by the university and not by any private body.

The changes in the university calendar were normally done by the university in consultation with the organisations representing principals and teachers.

The decision of the PCMA is not acceptable to AMUCT, the release added.

However, AMUCT was willing to extend its cooperation provided the university took all parties into confidence.

AMUCT urged the Vice-Chancellor of the university to take suitable action in this regard, the release said.
