Stone laid for school building

The foundation stone for a new building of St. Mary’s U.P. School, S. Paravoor, was laid by K. Chandran Pillai, MP. The building is being constructed using Rs 15 lakh from the constituency development fund of Mr Pillai and Sebastian Paul, MP. The building would be constructed by Nirmithi Kendra.

Cookery session

Students of Nava Nirman Public School, Vazhakkala, cooked different traditional dishes in what turned out to be a cookery session using firewood. In three hours, they made steamed tapioca, fish curry, carrot halwa, mixed veg thoran, beetroot pachadi, banana payasam, puli and nutmeg pickle and mango chutney.

The school also organised Resonance 2008, an exhibition in which exhibits based on science, social studies, maths, arts and crafts etc were displayed. There were also models of the space craft used for Chandrayaan mission and exhibits made using recycled paper.

Novel workshop

A large group of students eager to learn science, crowds around Bhaskaran Master. He opens his magic bag…. out come a pipe, sticks, needles and containers for water. At SBOA School, the Master explained with examples scientific theories and principles using things commonly available.

Teacher honoured

K.K. Bhaskaran is a retired principal of Government VHSS Thirumadi and has visited hundred of schools in the State to conduct science workshops with his Eureka Lab. He had been honoured with the State Award for Teachers in 2007.
