Naxalism will be put down: Acharya

Staff Correspondent

KUNDACHERI (KODAGU DisTrict): Home Minister V.S. Acharya said here on Wednesday that naxalism in the State would be put down.

He was speaking to presspersons after handing over a cheque for Rs. 5 lakh to the parents of Guruprasad, police constable, who died in an encounter with naxalites in Chikmagalur district on November 18.

The cheque was received by Mukkati Nanjappa and Leelavati, parents of the martyr, at their home here.

It was unfortunate that Guruprasad died in the encounter. It was, otherwise, a clean operation by the Anti-Naxal Force. All team members would be rewarded, Dr. Acharya said.

The naxal menace was acute in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, which was a cause for concern. Naxal activities began in Karnataka only since 2000 in districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Raichur and parts of Tumkur.
