TIRUCHI: Southern Railway has cancelled several trains running in the Mayiladuturai–Karaikudi section on November 27 also owing to heavy rains. Train No. 6861 / 6862 Tiruturaipoondi–Karaikudi–Tiruturaipoondi expresses; Train No 861 / 862 / 863 / 864 Mayiladuthurai–Karaikudi–Mayiladuthurai passengers and Train No. 865/ 866 Tiruturaipoondi–Mayiladuthurai–Tiruturaipoondi passengers have been cancelled, a Southern Railway press release here said. Another release said train nos. 6713 and 6101 Chennai Egmore–Rameswaram Expresses were fully cancelled on Wednesday. In view of the cancellation of these trains, train No. 0633 Chennai Egmore–Tiruchi special train has been extended up to Rameswaram. The train would arrive Tiruchi at 6.15 a.m. on November 27 and reach Rameswaram at 12.30 p.m. Railway sources said several trains in the Kumbakonam–Tiruchi broad gauge section suffered detention at different places on Wednesday as trees fell on the track owing to heavy rains. The Mysore-Mayiladuturai Express suffered detention at Kumbakonam for 35 minutes, while the Mayiladuthurai–Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi Express was detained at Aduthurai station for an hour. The Tiruchi–Mayiladuthurai Express was held up at Kumbakonam for 75 minutes, while the Tirunelveli–Mayiladuturai passenger suffered detention at Sundara Perumal Koil railway station for 45 minutes. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
