KARUR: Collector J. Umamaheswari inspected Sri Lankan refugee camps at Rayanur in Karur town and at Irumboothipatti near Kulithalai to have a first hand information on their requirements and grievances. The inmates at Rayanur camp wanted ration cards for those who had married and moved out, utensils and transfer of name and registration for two-wheelers. The Collector assured them that their demands would be considered. Later, she visited the camp at Irumboothipatti and enquired with the inmates about the facilities. Camp deputy chief Vedhanayaki told the Collector that 173 families were living mostly in huts that have been ravaged by the vagaries of nature over the years. The huts needed repairs, she added. Electrical connections have suffered damages, she pointed out. Better drinking water and drainage facilities were required, she said. The grievances of the inmates would be considered soon, the Collector assured. Kulithalai Revenue Divisional Officer Anbumani and officials accompanied the Collector. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
