‘It is an attack on India’s financial nerve centre’

‘Perpetrators of such heinous acts need no mercy’

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu condemned the terror attack on Mumbai that left scores of people killed and hundreds injured.

Mr. Naidu who is in Malaysia, termed the attack as unfortunate and heart rending. “After the UPA government came to power, this is the 18 such attack. There is no protection for the lives of people. Central intelligence agencies have failed to warn the States about the possible terror acts. Because of the failure of intelligence agencies, lives of hundreds of people are lost,” he remarked.

Praja Rajyam party president K. Chiranjeevi also said it was time for intelligence agencies to pull up their socks and shift into overdrive to prevent more such situations. At a press conference, he attributed the spurt in terrorist attacks to failure on the part of the government.

He refused to be drawn into making a statement when asked to spell out his stand on whether Afzal Guru, an accused in the attack on Parliament, should be hanged or not. He said there was need for courts to expedite the trial of accused in such attacks in the past.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy condemned the attack and said he was shocked by the senseless killing of innocent people. “It is an attack on India’s financial nerve centre,” he said and added that it was time when the entire country should remain united and defeat the nefarious designs of the country’s enemies.

BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya said the terror attack was a black day in the history of the country.

He said Pakistan-sponsored terrorism had reached such a proportion that terrorists entered Mumbai and hijacked police vehicles, raided hotels and opened indiscriminate firing on innocents.

President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Mallik Moatasim Khan said the perpetrators of such heinous and inhuman acts of terror need no mercy and those behind the acts should be exposed.
