Saina, Arvind in quarterfinals

Hong Kong: Saina Nehwal and Arvind Bhat continued their fine form to storm into the quaterfinals even as compatriot Chetan Anand fell by the wayside in the Hong Kong Super Series badminton tournament here today.

Saina quelled Korean Youn Joo Bae’s challenge 21-15, 12-21, 21-13 in 49 minutes in the women’s singles second round match to set up a last eight clash with Hong Kong’s Chen Wang.

Wang beat Judith Meulendijks of the Netherlands 21-18, 21-5.

Bhat thrashed Yan Kit Chan of Hong Kong 21-14, 21-19 in a lopsided 32-minute men’s second round contest to set up a clash with Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in the quarterfinals.

However, it was curtains for the highest ranked Indian Chetan Anand. Up against world No. 3 and third seed Jin Chen of China, Chetan just could not match his class and lost 11-21, 12-21 in the second round. — PTI
