TIRUPATTUR: The newly-constructed 30-bed pregnancy ward at Andiyapanoor Primary Health Centre (PHC) is yet to open, two months after its inauguration. Public Works Department and Law Minister Durai Murugan inaugurated the ward on September 12. Staff at the PHC said that they were yet to receive beds for the ward and equipment for operation theatre. The reason for the delay was not known. The ward was constructed at the cost of Rs.55 lakh. The Andiyapanoor PHC was one of the few PHCs in Vellore District, which had all medical facilities, including a quarters for the doctors and staff, sources said. The staff strength stood at 30, which included two doctors. According to the staff, the Andiyapanoor PHC, on an average, treated 250 out-patients every day. The staff said that at present, plans were on to bring unused equipment and beds from various health sub centres to the PHC.
