Cheques presented

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday presented to legal heirs of six Tamil scholars cheques for Rs. 48 lakh to secure copyrights of works of the scholars.

Since 2006, the government sanctioned Rs. 4.61 crore for securing copyrights of works of 62 scholars.

He also gave away prizes to winners of a poetry contest held by the government as part of the official language scheme golden jubilee celebration.

Cheques for a total of Rs. 25,000 were given to 16 poets. — Special Correspondent
